Libya’s Interior Minister Osama Abuzreiba, who leads the interim unity government appointed by the House of Representatives, pledged on Tuesday to renovate and upgrade the Sabha branch of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes and Money Laundering. Meeting with Department Director Major General Mahdi Bayanko and Sabha Branch Chief Captain Hamza Saleh al-Hadad, Abuzreiba discussed bolstering anti-financial crime efforts in southern Libya.

The minister promised to outfit the Sabha office with the latest technologies and equipment to ensure agents can carry out their duties efficiently. He also offered full support to activate and reinforce the regional branch.

Abuzreiba was briefed on the branch’s needs, the challenges it faces in effectively executing its mission, and the financial and human resources required to boost its capabilities to meet various threats. He emphasized the importance of ongoing communication with other security agencies and stakeholders to exchange expertise and enhance cooperation on combating financial crimes and money laundering.

The interior minister stressed the necessity of strengthening coordination between security organs and relevant bodies in the south to fight economic crimes and ensure economic stability. He called for a comprehensive action plan to develop the branch’s performance and improve its competencies.
