Man arrested for money laundering while owning 2 illegal gambling operations in Englewood

A man was arrested after laundering money while owning two illegal gambling houses in Charlotte County.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, deputies worked with the Florida Gaming Commission to stop illegal gambling activity.

CCSO investigated the Tiffany Square Bino Hall in Englewood. A search warrant was obtained, which resulted in the seizure of 196 electronic gaming machines. The hall was also permanently closed.

The sheriff's office says information from that investigation helped look into the Cornerstone Arcade.

Both places were owned and operated by 53-year-old Salim Qadir.

An arrest warrant was issued, and he was found in Forsyth, Georgia.

He is being held on a $256,000 bond and faces charges of:

  • RICO, prohibited activities and defense (racketeering)

  • Money laundering over $100,000, first-degree felony

  • Fraud money launder trans 20K less than $100K, second-degree felony

  • Lottery-operating conduct advertise drawing scheme, third-degree felony (x2)

  • Establish gambling place keep gambling house, second-degree misdemeanor (x2)
