An Ellsworth man will spend more than seven years behind bars for trafficking meth in Down East Maine that had been mailed from California.

A judge sentenced 38-year-old Jeremy Kane on Monday to 87 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Kane pleaded guilty in February to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and conspiring to commit money laundering.

According to court records, Kane and others conspired to traffic methamphetamine in Maine between May 2022 through May 2023.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a source in California would mail shipments of meth to Maine for distribution in Down East Maine.

Money from the drug deals were sent to the source using various money services, including Walmart2Walmart, Cash App, and Venmo.

A co-conspirator enlisted the aid of Kane and others to use their identifications and accounts to receive the money.

Officials say this was done to conceal and disguise the source’s involvement in the transactions and the money laundering.
