LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A man was arrested for stealing almost $1 million from his grandmother living in a southern Indiana nursing home, according to Indiana State Police.

An investigation was originally started by the ISP in May of 2024 when a financial institution reported seemingly suspicious transactions from the accounts of an elderly woman in Madison, Indiana.

Investigators discovered that 54-year-old Eric Dyer of Batesburg, South Carolina, was named the power of attorney and legal guardian of his grandmother in 2021 while she was living in an assisted living center.

Bank records from the accounts revealed that Dyer had allegedly withdrawn almost $1 million for his own personal use, and had also fallen behind in paying his grandmother’s monthly balance at the nursing home.

A warrant was issued for Dyer’s arrest for felony charges of theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence, and neglect of a dependent, in addition to a misdemeanor charge of elder abuse.

Dyer was arrested on Thursday, August 21, at a Madison, Indiana, hotel.
