Greek police in Samos have arrested a 47-year-old man for alleged involvement in a series of fraud cases and money laundering, the North Aegean General Police Directorate announced.

Officers from the Samos Crime Investigation and Detection Subdivision located and detained the suspect under a warrant. According to investigators, at least 27 cases of fraud committed between 2009 and September 2025 have been solved. Victims were identified in several parts of the country, including Samos, Naxos, Nafplio, Patras, Larissa, Kalymnos, Arta, and Attica.

The months-long preliminary investigation was carried out under the supervision of the Samos Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities relied on witness statements, special investigative acts, and findings from digital evidence, following a complaint filed in July 2025 for impersonation.

Police said the suspect allegedly presented himself as a police officer, an Interpol official, or an employee of the Ministry of Finance, the Hellenic Parliament, or an independent authority. By claiming fictitious connections with influential figures, he is accused of deceiving citizens and extracting sums exceeding €440,000.

He is also reportedly involved in at least three cases of extortion, in which he allegedly tried to prevent victims from reporting him to authorities or from seeking the return of their money.

During searches at residences where he was staying in Samos, carried out in the presence of a judicial official, officers seized documents related to electronic payments and transactions linked to the suspect.

The criminal case file includes felony charges such as impersonation, false testimony, theft, extortion, and violations of personal data legislation. Police have also identified seven additional individuals who are alleged to have collaborated with the suspect.
