Rs 40,000 cr bank fraud case: As part of its investigation into a money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh summons to Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani to appear for questioning, news agency PTI reported.

The report further said that Tina Ambani was asked to depose by the federal agency yesterday but she skipped appearance.

Officials told PTI that the former actor has now been asked to depose on February 17 followed by Anil Ambani on February 18.

Their statements will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) once they depose, the officials added.

In January, the ED said it has arrested former Reliance Communications (RCOM) president Punit Garg on money laundering charges in the alleged Rs 40,000 crore worth bank loan fraud case against group companies of businessman Anil Ambani, PTI reported.

ED Attached Fresh Rs 1800 cr Assets Linked To Reliance Anil Ambani Group

Last month, the ED attached fresh assets linked to Reliance Anil Ambani Group as part of its ongoing money laundering investigation.

According to the Press Trust of India, the agency has attached fresh assets worth more than Rs 1,800 crore linked to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group entities.

With this, the total value of attachment by the federal probe agency in the case now stands at about Rs 12,000 crore.

According to the PTI, citing ED’s statement, the agency has issued four separate provisional orders in this context under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The attached properties include bank deposits, shareholding in unquoted investments and some immovable properties, it said.

The attachments have been done in the cases related to Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL), Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL), Yes Bank "fraud" as well as an alleged fraud involving Reliance Communication Ltd, PTI report said.

Yes Bank’s Ex-CEO Rana Kapoor Questioned

The ED on December 15 questioned Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor as part of a money laundering investigation against Reliance Anil Ambani group companies, officials said.

His statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. These cases are linked to allegations of illegal and irregular loan disbursals during his tenure as the head of Yes Bank. Investigating agencies allege that certain loans were sanctioned in violation of banking norms, leading to financial misconduct and losses, which prompted the ED to step in and probe the money trail.

Rana Kapoor, 68, was earlier arrested and questioned by the ED in connection with separate money laundering cases.

Yes Bank, according to the officials, had an exposure of about Rs 6,000 crore to Reliance Anil Ambani Group (ADAG Group) as on March 31, 2017, and this figure doubled to Rs 13,000 crore within a year (as on March 31, 2018).
