LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Friday to have arrested five suspects in separate operations targeting illegal currency exchange, hawala-hundi networks and fraudulent visa processing.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the agency’s Commercial Banking Circle Lahore conducted a raid and arrested four suspects allegedly involved in hawala-hundi and illegal currency exchange.

The suspects were identified as Farhatullah, Zabiullah, Muhammad Qasim and Adnan Khan, all residents of Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency.

The FIA said it recovered Rs107 million from their possession, along with mobile phones and other evidence allegedly linked to hawala-hundi and illegal currency exchange activities.

In a separate operation, the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle raided a premises in Gulberg Main Market and arrested a suspected fraudulent visa agent, identified as Khalid Arif.

The agency said it recovered 17 Pakistani passports, 13 forged Albanian visa approval documents and 12 fake stamps from the suspect’s possession. Officials also seized fake contract and demand letters, medical and police certificates, and other documents allegedly being used for fraudulent visa processing.

The FIA said investigations into both cases had been launched following the arrests.
